Personal Demons

PERSONAL DEMONS is now available as a mass market paperback from Medallion Press. PERSONAL DEMONS is the first volume in "The Jake Helman Files," an ongoing horror thriller series, and in this origin story, drug addicted ex-cop Jake Helman takes on a reclusive billionaire who has monopolized genetic engineering, ghosts, a demon, and a serial killer who steals the souls of his victims.

Jake Helman returns in DESPERATE SOULS in 2010. This time he confronts a drug kingpin who uses a deadly new street narcotic called "Black Magic" to create an army of zombies.

NEW: Audio book versions of PERSONAL DEMONS and DESPERATE SOULS, the first two volumes in The Jake Helman Files, are available from Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon. Narrated by Christopher Hurt.

“Where's Old Nick?”

It's the dawn of a new era in genetic breakthroughs. Jake Helman, an ex-homicide cop seeking redemption, becomes the Security Chief for Nicolas Tower, a reclusive billionaire. On the streets of Manhattan, and in the corporate fortress known as The Tower, Jake is drawn into a nightmarish battle between an angel named Abel, a demon called Cain, and a serial killer who steals the souls of his victims.

“What sold me on Personal Demons, from its first paragraph to its concluding pages, was the author's almost uncanny ability to mix characterization, plot and atmosphere into a heady, scary brew.”
— T. M. Wright, Author of Strange Seed and A Manhattan Ghost Story

“What begins as a mystery moves from the procedural emphasis of Ed McBain to the grisly psychopathology of Thomas Harris, then turns the corner into Isaac Asimov and Michael Crichton territory before speeding along Peter Straub Street to William Peter Blatty Boulevard. Like Roman Polanski, Lamberson understands that true horror doesn't spring from a coffin like Max Schreck in Nosferatu but from the depths of mundane desires, curiosities and fears, often in broad daylight. In Personal Demons, he has crafted a tale that explores murder, madness, and myth and, ultimately takes us back to a common source for all three. It is a story well told.”
— Artvoice

“Lamberson has delivered an irresistible, scary, action-packed horror novel full of intrigue and deep thoughts on life and death. Fans of nail-biting suspense scenes will be in their glory here. Personal Demons is a sure-fire hit for anyone who likes horror on the supernatural side.”
— The Horror Fiction Review

“Personal Demons by Greg Lamberson is a novel with a little bit of everything under the literary sun in it: noir, science fiction, serial killers, supernatural forces, demons, shoot-outs, ghosts, Biblical portents, police procedurals, and Faustian pacts. That sounds like a lot for one novel, possibly too much. For some writers, it would be. But not for Lamberson, who combines these elements into one whopper of a story that almost any reader will find irresistible. He adds even more to the mix with compelling characters, a multi-layered plot, a crisp writing style, and some literary misdirection for highly effective surprises and plot twists.”
— Hellnotes

“I had to put this book down to catch my breath.”
— Cemetery Dance Weekly

“Personal Demons was a total disaster for me: I had two feature films to finish, and yet I couldn't put the book down! Gregory Lamberson has taken a sturdy noir foundation and applied a fresh coat of supernatural paint. There are some wonderfully original and provocative ideas, and a reveal or two worthy of Dostoyevsky. I can't wait to see the film, or read the next installment. I'll take either one.”

“Visceral and ambitious, Personal Demons is an intricately constructed, genre busting decent into a hellish noir sci-fi nightmare with an unexpected spiritual dimension.”
— Larry Fessenden, writer-director of WENDIGO and HABIT
