You can read all about the making of SLIME CITY in a lengthy chapter I wrote
for an upcoming book from Succubus Press, Gods in Spandex: A Survivors' Account
of 80s Cinema Obscura. 19 years after we shot it, SLIME CITY is better than
ever!
In 1986, with my partners Marc Makowski and Peter Clark, I co-produced SLIME
CITY, which I wrote and directed, on a $50,000.00 budget. Peter shot the film
in 16m, my friend Robert Sabin endured hours of prosthetic makeup courtesy
of J. Scott Coulter and Tom Lauten to portray the evil Zachary, who possesses
a sexually frustrated college student, and Mary Huner essayed dual roles.
It took us 2 years to complete SLIME CITY, which played as a midnight movie
for 5 weeks at the Bleecker Street Cinemas (now the home of Kim's Underground)
in New York City. We sold the film to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, England, Spain,
Brazil and France, and it has been released on VHS twice in the U. S. In 2005,
E.I. Independent Cinema produced a letterboxed DVD of the film, which I screened
at Twisted Nightmare Weekend in Ohio, Horrorfind in Baltimore, and at the
Halloween Horror Picture Show in Tampa, Florida.
SLIME CITY debuts in France and on DVD.
